MP powder find sparks police probe

Police have evacuated the electorate office of Federal MP Andrew Robb in Melbourne’s south east after staff found a suspicious package.

The package was delivered about 10.30am to the Centre Road, Bentleigh office and staff called police about 12pm when white powder was discovered.

A staff member said police had to be called whenever powder was discovered in the mail.

“We hope to get back in the office really soon,” she said.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that an office on Centre Road was evacuated but could not provide further details.

Mr Robb was elected as the federal member for Goldstein in 2004.

He is the shadow minister for finance, deregulation and debt reduction.
