SUNDAY’S blockbuster match-up between former AFL forwards Brendan Fevola and Barry Hall at W.J. Findlay Oval is in doubt with Fevola to face the tribunal tomorrow night.

Fevola has been cited for striking Wodonga Raiders star Ben Davies during the fourth quarter at the weekend.

Raiders instigated the action and the Ovens and Murray league’s review panel — Dale Gleeson, Mark Sarau and Adam Mudra — referred the incident to the tribunal after examining video footage.

Even if Fevola escapes sanction, he is no certainty to play.

Pigeons president Glenn Brear yesterday said a third-party sponsor to pay Fevola’s match fee, believed to be about $5000, hadn’t been found.

Brear said one company had offered $2000.

“That’s not enough money to make it work,” Brear told The Border Mail.

“If someone else is out there that would be great.

“Rovers haven’t got any money for him.

“At this point in time he won’t be playing.

“If someone wants him to play they’ll have to chip in.”

Fevola, who booted nine goals in the 20-point home win against Raiders, has now been reported three times from his nine games.

After learning he had been cited by Raiders, Fevola tweeted: “Raiders pack of sooks. #Low. #Unheardof.”

But Fevola, who was fined a record $1000 for abusing umpires on the social media website last month, will not be fined for his latest comments.

In further developments, Rovers brushed off claims Hall wouldn’t be registered by Sunday, with Hawks vice-president Barry Sullivan saying the correct paperwork had been completed.

“We’ve filled in all the same details as per a clearance to register him and it was submitted to the Ovens and Murray and they accepted that,” Sullivan said.

“My understanding from talking with VCFL officials is that former AFL players don’t need a clearance but need to be registered.”

While the Wangaratta Council wants ticket sales for the game capped at 8000, Sullivan said “no one will be turned away”.

“We are getting lots of interest for pre-sold tickets but there will be heaps of tickets for sale at the gate,” he said.

“There is not going to be a cloud in the sky, according to the Bureau of Meteorology website, so it shapes as a wonderful day for footy.”

Pre-game tickets are available from the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre.
