Two female police officers were assaulted in Cairns overnight – with one punched in the face – after being called out to two separate domestic violence cases.
Police said the first assault happened just after midnight when officers arrived at a domestic dispute in a home in Sandown Close in Woree.
A female police officer was punched in the face by a woman at the house.
A woman has been issued with a notice to appear in court for assaulting police.
At 4.20am, police were called to a domestic dispute in Pease Street in Manoora, another suburb of Cairns.
Police officers were trying to restrain a man at the house when a female officer was injured.
She has a suspected back injury as well as injuries to her hand.
A man is in police custody.
