Shot fired at friends in car

Police are investigating reports of a gunshot fired at a car near the South Melbourne market this morning.

Police said two groups of friends were talking in two parked cars in a car park at the corner of York and Ferrars streets when another man fired a shot at the group shortly after 4.30am. No one was injured.

Police said one of the cars drove away along York Street and was pursued by a third car, which police believe contained the gunman.

A 22-year-old man reported the incident at Narre Warren police station, in Melbourne’s outer south-east suburbs.

Police believe all parties are known to each other.
