Two people have been seriously injured in a six-car pile-up in Melbourne’s east.
The crash threw traffic into chaos and closed parts of Blackburn and Waverley roads in Mount Waverley for an hour about 1.30pm.
The accident occurred when a car driving north on Blackburn Road crashed with a vehicle at the Waverley Road intersection, hitting four other stationary vehicles, a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
A Mount Waverley woman aged in her 60s suffered severe spinal and leg injuries, while a Malvern East man in his late 20s had serious cuts and grazes.
Paramedics took both patients to The Alfred hospital, where they are in a stable condition, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman said.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
The roads have been reopened.
